I know you feel stuck right now. I’m here to help.
Why Work with Caitlin?
You’re stuck and can’t quite manage alone.
Of course, you can figure out a lot of things on your own. You’re a smart person and an expert in your field. You’ve probably read all the books and “tried all the things.” I hear you. Sometimes you need someone to scaffold you up to the next step. Show you how to do it step by step. We don’t lift heavy barbells above our heads without supervision and direction. Let’s treat our mental and emotional gymnastics the same way.
You’ve outgrown other techniques.
You’ve probably done a lot of therapy already. You’ve told your story many times. I don’t need to hear your story. I’m not a therapist. Many of my clients are therapists, counselors, clinicians, medical doctors, or other life coaches. They need other tools and techniques. We process your emotions and strategize about your results. It often takes less time than you think to gain traction.
You need accountability.
Many of us need someone walking beside us, holding us to a higher standard, and reducing our tendency to fall back into old habits. I always hire someone when I want to uplevel an area of my life--and I find so much more success because of it!
You long for a clear vision.
A life coach helps you see things from a bird’s-eye view. Because I’m separate from your life, I can see things from a wider perspective and call your attention to things that those closest to the situation simply cannot.
What We Do Together
Many of my clients come to me feeling stuck. They know WHAT to do, but they aren’t doing it and they don’t know why. I help them become anchored in themselves, confident and secure in their next best steps. We start wherever you need to start:
How I Coach
My first area of expertise is from my Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Science. There I learned about relationships, how systems interconnect to influence each other, and what it means to grow into adulthood. This lens informs my coaching when my clients discuss all the areas of their lives, especially balancing both work and family life.
Then I developed skills as a developmental psychology professor for 7 years. I learned more about our brains and cognitive functioning through that work. I mentored and coached students on their career journey. I earned tenure and became a department chair at a small institution during that time, which showed me the ins and outs of academia. I survived my own career crisis in that process, so I totally understand if you’re feeling stuck in your career right now.
My official coach training comes from The Life Coach School. Many other coaches learn how to guide clients only by using the Actions and Results stages. And before training with The Life Coach School in 2018, that’s how I did it too.
Then I learned that the key to successful life coaching is realizing that our actions are directly tied to our feelings. Feelings guide everything we do. The good news is that feelings are generated from our thoughts--and we can choose to change our thoughts. This is called “causal coaching.”
Consider this example: if you had a broken arm and a doctor told you to take a pain reliever, you would probably feel better for a little while. But you wouldn’t actually be fixing the root of the problem because your arm would still be broken! Doing what needs to be done to heal the broken arm ultimately relieves the pain permanently.
This is the heart of what we do in causal coaching. We get to the root of the issue (the feelings) and heal from there.
This doesn’t mean we only think positive things or try to be special, happy unicorns. Life is still 50% positive emotion and 50% negative emotion. However, when a coach helps you to be the ‘watcher of your thoughts’, you know where to go next on the journey.
As a life coach and meditation instructor, it’s my honor to show you your brain, process emotions, and journey with you toward meeting your goals.
